Lewis McMahon, 30, jailed for attacking a man with a hammer outside a Newcastle social club following a November incident.

CCTV cameras caught McMahon with weapons. He had a knuckle duster and a hammer. The attack took place near the Lemington Labour Club and lasted about thirty minutes.
Around 9:55 PM, the victim walked up to the club steps. McMahon pulled him and swung the hammer, hitting the guy five more times. Someone nearby stopped the attack.
The victim had a wound six centimeters long on his head. The judge saw everything clearly on the CCTV footage and noticed McMahon wearing distinctive clothes.
The judge also noticed McMahon moving the knuckleduster. He had the hammer in his pocket, and the victim wasn’t even looking at McMahon. McMahon then swung the hammer at his head.
The victim fell to the ground, and McMahon continued to hit him multiple times. The court also learned he had a suspended sentence for a fight involving machetes and a bat.
McMahon’s lawyer said he didn’t bring the hammer and that personal issues caused the attack. The lawyer stated he has a good work history and didn’t look for trouble.
The lawyer argued that trouble just came to him that night. McMahon admitted to wounding someone intentionally and possessing offensive weapons.
He pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified and without any insurance. The judge sentenced him to five years and four months.
