Lawson Natty, convicted in the Gordon Gault manslaughter case, will be deported to Nigeria after losing his appeal.

Lawson Natty was convicted of manslaughter, as was Carlo Neto. This followed a long trial at Newcastle Crown Court. Neto fatally stabbed Gordon and got nine years and two months in jail.
Natty ordered the weapon online. His sentence was two years and eight months. The judge said Natty, whose parents are Nigerian, would be deported after his jail release.
Last summer, Gordon’s family was upset to learn Natty, now 19, would be freed early due to a government plan aimed at reducing prison overcrowding.
Gordon’s mom, Dionne Barrett, got news that Natty lost his deportation appeal. They will start the process to remove him, though deportation could still take some time. Dionne welcomes this development.
Dionne said she is glad he will leave and won’t harm others in the UK again. She feels the sentence wasn’t long enough, hoping it deters knife crime, which is getting out of control currently.
Gordon was hurt near Elswick Park. The fight happened on November 9, 2022. Passers-by tried to help Gordon after he collapsed in the street. He spent six days in intensive care, and then he died in Dionne’s arms.
Six teens were tried for Gordon’s murder, but all were cleared of that charge. Neto and Natty were convicted of manslaughter. Neto was from Salford, Greater Manchester, while Natty was from Newcastle.
Jurors learned about a gang feud that led to the violent killing of Gordon.
The judge considered Natty’s foreign status. Automatic deportation provisions likely apply, and deportation could be a greater punishment compared to any sentence he could impose.
