Discover Wellington Street, a vibrant spot near Newcastle with award winning pubs, wine, and unique shops.

The street is a vibrant hub, though some places have varied opening days. A micropub on the street recently won an award, where chatting with folks is easy. A few doors down, you’ll find a bar, Victor Indigo November, which is new to the railway quarter area.
This shop specializes in French wines, cheeses, and charcuterie. It opened in autumn 2023 and offers wine flights for tasting. You can sample white and red wines from Lyon. Axis, another spot for wine lovers, opened last year, featuring natural and vegan wines, alongside craft beers.
Microbus, the aforementioned micropub, won an award for its beer within a year of opening. It’s a small and cute pub, decorated with campervan parts. Live music nights can get crowded, with people spilling out onto the street, conveniently located near a bus stop.
All three places have some outdoor seating. Wellington Street offers more than just food and drink. Mushu Tattoo shop is also located there. The horror-themed café, The Rested Ghoul, recently shut down.
The Rested Ghoul was known for its props, with skeletons often displayed in the front window. Customers shared sad messages online about its closing. Nearby, The Big Fat Donut Co., with its bright pink logo, offers donuts iced with Halloween designs.
These shops are all located on one side of the street. Across from them, you’ll find Sereniti Health. On a corner sits the old Gateshead Railway Club, where street food vans sometimes park. For sit-down meals, walk around the corner to Half Moon Lane to find an old pub.
The Central, nicknamed “the coffin,” is a Victorian building with polished wood and glass decor. It offers a full menu and sometimes provides free food. Live music might be playing upstairs, offering entertainment alongside the dining experience.
The Central boasts many craft beers, frequently winning awards for its selection. Station East, another award-winning pub located under the arches, sits opposite The Central.
