Four meerkats joined Belfast Zoo, including two babies born after their parents settled in January.

Two meerkats got to the zoo in January. After settling in, they had two babies. Zoo staff are happy about the babies. The parents are doing a great job. The baby meerkats are doing well.
They explore with their parents watching. Meerkats stand upright with keen awareness. At least one always watches for danger. Meerkats live in groups, called a mob.
Mobs can have up to fifty meerkats. One female mates in the mob. The Zoo Manager, Alyn Cairns, seems pleased. She said the meerkats like Belfast Zoo.
The pair had two babies already. This shows how happy they are. The zoo wants a large meerkat group, similar to the wild. The new meerkats are visible daily. Their home looks like their natural place. People can enjoy watching them interact with their habitat.
