Crediton’s first McDonald’s drive-thru near Joseph Locke Way is nearing completion, set to open late February, creating 120 jobs.

The plan for the restaurant was not loved by everyone. Located on the edge of town, some worried it would hurt local shops, as Crediton has many unique, independent businesses already.
The council thinks it’s a good thing, however. They say a big company is investing lots of money. Photos show the drive-thru is nearly done now, and you can find it on Joseph Locke Way, near Tesco.
McDonald’s says they will open towards the end of February. The town’s planning department shared some info, revealing the restaurant will create over 120 jobs that are both full and part-time.
The building has space for 76 customers. It also has parking, a playground, and some nice landscaping. McDonald’s really wanted a restaurant in this area, aiming to give customers more choices.
Right now, Exeter is the closest place to get McDonald’s. Tiverton and Cullompton also have McDonald’s in Mid Devon. Some people support the new McDonald’s. One person said many locals travel far for it, and they feel it will bring more people to Crediton. It will also help the town grow and provide jobs.
Another person believes it creates new jobs, saying young people looking for work could benefit greatly. People from other towns might visit Crediton and then shop elsewhere in town. This new McDonald’s will be many visitors’ first stop. It will be visible entering town from Exeter.
Some are worried about more traffic, however, as the A377 road into Crediton is often busy already.
