A fresh inquest will examine the 1994 death of Anthony Whittle, found near Llandygai after leaving Ysbyty Gwynedd hospital.

The coroner is doing a new inquest. Thirty years after his death, it re-opened. Kate Robertson is the senior coroner, and she mentioned he was at a hospital before he died, Ysbyty Gwynedd, in Bangor.
The first inquest in ’95 couldn’t say how he got there and ruled it an open verdict. Now, the High Court said that was wrong. They want a new inquest, so here we are.
They are investigating further. The new inquest will happen later, as they need more evidence. Apparently, he left the hospital through a window. They found him the next day near the bridge.
Anthony was 30. He had paranoid schizophrenia since he was a teen. He began college in Bangor that October. His family said he was upset toward the end of November.
Police found him on a beach the day before he died. He said he could walk on water. He left the hospital alone, and he was supposed to have more evaluations.
His family has concerns. They wonder if the hospital did enough and ask how he escaped. Also, were proper searches done for him? They think these things need investigating.
