Plans submitted for up to 190 homes on a former quarry near Shepshed with open space and potential country park.

The land used to provide clay for a brickworks. Part of it has been turned into grassland. The developers want to add a country park with housing and could help fund a school west of Shepshed.
A new road into the area is planned, connecting to Ashby Road. They seek outline permission now, which approves the idea generally; the finer points come later.
The big area was a clay quarry, while a smaller part is farmland. Part of the quarry is now grass and trees, and they planted hedges too for wildlife.
Clay extraction is allowed until 2041; however, it stopped back in 2022. The factory is gone from the site, and bricks won’t be made there again.
The plan offers lots of open space and might even provide a country park. Orchards and allotments sound nice, and tree-lined streets could be built as well. The council has the documents available, so you can share your views with them by the deadline of February 26.
