A massive play tower will be built as part of the park improvements. Includes zip line, musical toys and sensory elements.

Durham County Council is improving Hardwick Park by updating the play area. The project includes new play equipment, a zip line, a basket swing, and hammocks. Kids can also enjoy an accessible roundabout and outdoor musical instruments planned for the space.
A giant play tower, only the second of its kind in Europe, will be installed. The tower is coming from Germany and is similar to one in Bietigheim-Bissingen, a town near Stuttgart.
The tower will reach 14.5 meters and is designed to match the park’s gatehouse, which was designed by James Paine in the 18th century. It features rope chimneys, a net bridge, and slides, including sensory play elements. Kids will also be able to see great park views from above.
The park is very popular with about 450,000 visitors each year. The council wants to improve the play area to create a new play space where children can play, develop skills, and spend time outside.
The new tower is exciting and will be the only one like it in the UK. The council looks forward to opening it in the spring. During construction, the play area near the Gothic Tower is currently closed as workers install the tower and other play equipment.
