Hey, guess what? Dublin has a new cycle route! It’s in the city center and opened early.

The cycleway runs from George’s Quay to Aston Quay. It cost €5.5 million, which was less than expected! This project is part of a bigger plan and is part of Dublin City Council’s Active Travel Network. They call the bigger plan the Liffey Cycle Route.

Construction started in March 2024, and they thought it would finish later, in Q2 2025. The Lord Mayor said the route helps people, letting them walk, cycle, and use wheelchairs safely. It also makes the city look nicer while connecting people.

This new route makes cycling better with separate bike lanes going both ways. The lanes run from Talbot Bridge to O’Connell Bridge. It improves crossings too!

For instance, they removed an island near O’Connell Bridge. It reduces the number of traffic lanes from two to one, but the bus lane will stay. They also fixed the road surface.

Four junctions got upgrades. The new route should encourage walking and cycling. It may help Dublin reduce transport emissions, aligning with Dublin City Council’s climate goals. This will happen by encouraging people to cycle.
