A planning committee approved sewage works expansion plans. The vote happened today at a Denbighshire village planning meeting. Councillors unanimously granted permission, despite residents’ fears about smells and wildlife damage.

Welsh Water wants a wetland at Tremeirchion’s sewage site, which is currently agricultural land. Residents wrote letters to the council, expressing worries about their quality of life. Christopher Wynne thinks it risks habitat harm. He sent a letter as Wynne Construction raised the alarm. Neighbors also worry about bad smells.

Officers suggested approval. Welsh Water promised odor control and also guaranteed to protect wildlife. Councillors then backed the plans, making the vote unanimous.

Cllr. Elson learned it’s an aerobic system, which shouldn’t smell while working. Anaerobic digestion causes smells if broken. The system removes phosphates and stops them from entering water. Elson thinks it’s a good scheme.

The expansion includes septic tanks, wetland cells with plants, a welfare facility, new roads, and fencing. Landscaping is also planned.
