Major road project approved after years of delays. It promises to cut journey times & boost the local economy.

A spending review, pledged in 2014 when David Cameron was prime minister, caused some worry. The project will improve a junction linking the A47 and A11, giving drivers faster trips near Norwich.
The project also aids a local growth plan, called the Greater Norwich City Deal, which aims to increase housing and jobs. A minister stated the project can now proceed, after legal issues caused delays and costing money because Norwich waited a long time for the scheme.
Court actions blocked the junction work, which connects major roads and handles traffic from south Norwich. Someone challenged carbon emissions in court, but the appeal court rejected that challenge, and other road projects also faced delays.
The Department for Transport discussed delays, noting these court cases caused over a year of delay. The upgrade will save drivers time, potentially four minutes eastbound during busy times, and the A11 journey could be three minutes faster.
The project could prevent crashes, and officials predict fewer serious injuries over time. New routes help keep traffic flowing smoothly, and the new plan supports walkers and cyclists too. Two new roads will send traffic under the junction.
A council member is very happy now, having wanted this change for many years. The changes will boost the economy and improve links for local businesses. A business leader said they pushed for these changes because the funding is very important for Norfolk.
The upgrade helps housing and jobs, and new business chances will emerge too. The Highways Agency already began work, but they have not stated a finish date.
