Yorkshire does fish and chips very well. Coastal spots are popular, but seagulls can be a problem. York offers less seagull risk and beautiful views.

Last year, I wrote about Drake’s, which is on Low Petergate. So, I visited Mr Chippy nearby on Church Street. It is popular on social media.

TripAdvisor has many good reviews. One review called it York’s “best,” and the aroma drew me in, reminding me of old cartoons.

They have deals from 11 AM to 5 PM, Monday to Friday. These help with the cost of living, and “Lite bite” meals start at £5.

I ordered chips and gravy with scraps, along with chicken goujons for £7. A Coca-Cola cost £2, and a nice lady served me. She looked for my chicken in the freezer, though her coworker did not help her much.

The menu had all the usual items, and they offer vegan options, which get positive TripAdvisor reviews. My order cost £13.84, and I took it upstairs to the seating area. From there, I could see a bit of York whilst smooth music played quietly as I ate my gravy-topped lunch.

The food and friendly service were great. The deals are affordable, so there is much to like about this place.

I slightly prefer Drake’s, but this is not a criticism of Mr Chippy, as it is a good place for food.
