Pippa Heylings MP visited Meldreth Station to advocate for an access ramp, improving accessibility for all.

The Meldreth, Shepreth, and Foxton group, called the Community Rail Partnership, is helping. Network Rail owns the station and the land, which they need for the ramp to work. They asked for money from the government, but it didn’t work out.
The Community Rail Partnership asked Pippa to visit so she could see the problem. Susan van de Ven, the head of the Partnership and representative for Meldreth and Melbourn, shared her concerns about station access.
Meldreth Station’s accessibility is a problem particularly because the London-bound platform is hard to reach, making it difficult for people with mobility issues to use it. Steps are the only way to cross the tracks and also lead down to the path.
Many people attended the visit. A train company called Govia Thameslink Railway joined, along with representatives from Meldreth Parish Council. The County Council’s transport team was present, and TTP, a company from Melbourn also participated.
Notably, TTP helped fund the new path, which connects the station to Melbourn. They want employees to use public transport and strongly support building the ramp. TTP’s contribution is a great help to this project.
Pippa Heylings enjoyed visiting the station and meeting the people eager to see the ramp built. She thinks better access is needed and appreciated meeting local support partners, all of whom are ready to move this project forward.
