Kara Alexander was convicted of murdering her two young sons in Dagenham in December 2022 by drowning them in a bathtub.

The autopsies showed drowning or suffocation killed them. Alexander said it was an accident. She said the boys drowned while in the bath. The court trial took place at Kingston Crown Court.
Selvin Thomas, the children’s father, planned to pick them up. He got worried when she didn’t answer him. He visited their home, but she said they slept. He found them dead in their bunk bed. They wore their pajamas. He ran to get help.
Alexander ran away through gardens. Emergency responders arrived. The boys died hours before. Police found Alexander an hour later. She denied the murder charges.
Alexander claimed she fell asleep. She stated the boys drowned unsupervised. Prosecutors disagreed with this. They said accidental drowning was unlikely. They believed Alexander killed them.
Samantha Yelland spoke about the tragic loss. She stated Alexander failed as a parent. She hopes the family will receive some closure. DCI Paul Waller led the investigation.
He said the father went through something terrible. No parent should ever experience this. The first responders also experienced trauma. He highlighted how difficult the case has been. The verdict hopefully gives the family resolution. Alexander will learn her sentence on April 11.
