Mid Devon approves Traveller pitches in Burlescombe to meet housing demand, following local and national guidance.

Ann Crocker wanted to change land use. She planned three new caravan spots with gardens. The area is part of a long-term private Traveller site where Gypsy and Traveller families lived for decades.
The council set rules for approval. Only government-defined Travellers can live there, and the site can have only five caravans max. They also made rules for safe road access from the busy A38.
Burlescombe Parish Council agreed with the plan because they noted no trees would be cut down. Locals had no concerns either.
Colin Wells, a local, supported the plan. He said more Traveller pitches are needed badly and that it helps families find homes.
The decision follows local and national rules. Mid Devon wants enough Traveller housing in rural spots. Reports said it met environmental and safety rules.
The site is in a Minerals Zone too. Devon County Council reviewed the plan and said it wouldn’t affect mining.
The applicant must manage drainage and nature well. A nature impact study was not needed because the project’s environmental effect is small.
Construction must start in three years now.
