Monmouthshire Council confirms all 20mph speed limits will stay, following a speed limit review and resident feedback.

The council joined the first 20mph rollout in 2022-23. Abergavenny and Severnside roads were pilot areas. The council reassessed four roads, deciding not to change anything.
The pilot helped prepare for the 2023 rollout. They realized local road use varies. Councillors reviewed roads before decisions, using original Welsh Government guidance. Some pilot roads changed after feedback.
The council received 1,496 feedback responses. Residents wanted some roads back at 30mph, suggesting 143 roads. Policy comments and trunk roads did not count, as these are Welsh Government matters.
The council analyzed responses and reassessed four roads in Magor, Undy, Rogiet, and Caldicot. Other roads included Hereford Road and roads in Abergavenny. Also encompassed was the A4077 in Gilwern.
The council used updated Welsh guidance which stresses safety for road users, including pedestrians and cyclists. They considered road use and features. Ultimately they decided all 20mph roads must remain so.
Councillor Maby thanked everyone who gave feedback. The council prioritizes safety. The reassessment kept all roads at 20mph, ensuring safety for residents and visitors.
