Wolverhampton bar and grill fined after cockroach infestation contaminated food surfaces, posing a risk to public health.

The Millions Kitchen’s owners risked customer health, leading to prosecution by the City of Wolverhampton Council. Council officers inspected the Showell Road place in August 2023, following a complaint they received.
Cockroaches tainted surfaces, gear, and food wraps, resulting in food contamination due to the infestation. Directors Chris Onohwano Igomuaye and Sikiru Owolewa admitted guilt for breaking food safety rules in 2013, with the hearing occurring on February 7.
The business also faced the same charge and pleaded guilty as well. The court fined The Millions Kitchen £4,000, they must pay £5,554 in costs, and a £1,600 victim surcharge is also due.
Igomuaye and Owolewa each got £270 fines, and must pay £500 in costs. Each pays a £108 surcharge.
Councillor Bhupinder Gakhal commented that infestations show poor food hygiene, which can cause serious sickness. Gakhal stated the business risked customer safety knowingly, and that he is glad the court understood the offense.
The council protects residents from risks like these. Other businesses should notice that Wolverhampton takes food hygiene seriously.
