Plans progress for demolishing Mayfield Primary in Midlothian and building a new community campus with updated designs.

The idea is to combine two schools on one campus. Mayfield Primary and St Lukes RC Primary would join, and the campus will include a nursery for younger kids. Facilities will support children with extra needs.
The council got updated plans, says Urban Realm. It combines two primary schools and there will be an early years center. The site will also include special needs services, with all these in one campus.
Jmarchitects want to replace existing schools. They are Mayfield and St Luke’s Primary, and a new joint campus will be built. It features library and workspaces, with meeting rooms and multi-use areas planned too.
Jmarchitects said shared spaces face the street. These include the hall and library and community spaces will be there too. This will give the area life.
They place the two schools on each side. An active stairwell sits between the two and this creates a view of a big tree.
Early plans stated there would be 701 pupils; this includes both primary schools. The ASN facility would hold 48 pupils, and the nursery would hold 128 children.
The new plan changed those numbers a bit. The new school will still hold 701 pupils. The ASN facility will hold 24 pupils and the nursery will hold 100 children.
