Kids, 12 to 15, lived alone for years in squalor after their mom left. Home filled with waste, mold, and trash.
The kids are fifteen, twelve, and thirteen. Police found them in squalor in a Pontiac house last Friday. The landlord called the police for a check-up because he hadn’t heard from her since December.
The rent wasn’t paid since October either. The kids told police their mom left them in either 2020 or 2021. Since then, they lived there alone.
The house had waste and mold everywhere. Some rooms had four-foot-high trash piles. The kids didn’t even know hygiene basics, and they also hadn’t gone to school.
The girls hadn’t left the house in years. They slept on pizza boxes, while the boy had a mattress on the floor. They mostly watched TV and played games.
The sheriff was unbelievably angry and thought the conditions worse than for animals. He described the children’s neglect and said their education suffered.
The kids ate food left on the porch, delivered by their mom or someone else. They had matted hair and long toenails, and walking was hard for them.
The mom was found somewhere else and arrested. The dad wasn’t around at all. Now a relative is taking care of them, and authorities will try to get justice.
