Trams in Manchester will face delays. Maintenance starts soon in the city center. Expect weeks of disruption for passengers.

Metrolink tracks need replacement. The work focuses near York Street. This is close to Piccadilly Gardens. Trams won’t run to Market Street or Piccadilly Gardens, and they cannot run from St Peter’s Square station.

Work begins on Saturday, March 1. It should end Sunday, March 16. One city route will close, and service changes are now expected across the city.

TfGM aims to reduce disruption. They plan to avoid key events and will consider alternative transport. Chris Barnes, TfGM’s network director, spoke about these plans.

Ashton-under-Lyne trams go to Victoria. They stop at several places, including Piccadilly and Shudehill. Other trams go via Exchange Square. Free buses leave Deansgate-Castlefield. A walking route will also exist.

March’s closure starts track renewals. More work is planned this year. This upgrade costs £147 million. Further work includes High Street and Piccadilly Gardens.

Ian Davies, who directs Metrolink for TfGM, also spoke. He said investment is vital and wants a safe and reliable network. Metrolink is the biggest rail system.
