St. Helens council could increase your council tax. The increase could be 4.99%. Next week, councillors will discuss the budget.

A council report suggests the tax rise. This is for the financial year 2025/26. The 4.99% is the maximum without a vote.

Part of the increase funds adult social care. Two percent will go toward it. St. Helens has low council tax in Merseyside. The increase would raise about £4.8 million. This money helps maintain services. Most homes would pay less than 22p more daily.

The council has investment plans too. They plan to spend £115 million for council projects next year. This includes town center regeneration and school improvements.

Over £203 million is planned for 2025-2028. This helps regenerate St Helens and Earlestown, fixes highways, and rebuilds schools.

Liverpool also plans a 4.99% council tax increase. Social care costs put pressure on budgets. Liverpool could generate £11 million more. Most Liverpool homes are in bands A or B. A third of the city’s funds is for social care.
