Network Rail apologizes for major disruption on Merseyrail lines due to signaling issues causing delays and cancellations.

Network Rail said sorry for the problems. Southport, Ormskirk, and Hunts Cross lines had issues. Headbolt Lane trains also dealt with it. They had delays and cancellations.
Southport trains stopped at Sandhills. Headbolt Lane trains ran half as often. Lots of people packed onto fewer trains. People called it a “nightmare.” One person said staff might remove people.
Too many wanted to board. Another felt unsafe on a packed train. The platform was super busy. The Hunts Cross train was late and crowded. People filled the aisles.
Central station was even worse. It felt unsafe being crammed in. Merseyrail said buses would replace trains after 9 PM. This affected Sandhills to Hunts Cross. They needed to do emergency railway repairs.
Network Rail fixes the signalling, so they apologized. They’re working to fix two signalling system faults. Crews planned a full inspection that night. They aimed to resolve problems and restore schedules.
