North East Mayor Kim McGuinness and Newcastle Eagles unite to fight racism, promote unity in the region.

The Mayor collaborated with Eagles stars, including Darius Defoe and Sauveur Kande. They held a workshop with local pupils, supported by St Paul’s Primary and Show Racism the Red Card.
The aims of these workshops are to teach kids and promote inclusion for everyone. The focus is to stop racism in the area.
The group visited the Eagles’ arena, known as the Vertu Motors Arena, where they celebrated the team’s Super League trophy. This showcased their recent victory.
Mayor McGuinness deeply values the North East and its friendly, welcoming people. She wants to eliminate racism and stop division, and will work with young people to achieve this.
Last summer, problems arose in the North East where minority groups felt unsafe going outside. They feared wearing turbans or hijabs in public.
McGuinness supports Show Racism the Red Card and other groups uniting the community. She found working with the Eagles a privilege, as they act as great ambassadors for the region.
Paul Kearns, director of Show Racism the Red Card, is happy about their partnership with the Eagles. He stated that sport can create social change and the riots illustrated the need for inclusion.
The Eagles support their anti-racism mission and stand together, rejecting racism. They collaborate with the Mayor and others to help educate the next generation, aiming to build a North East free from prejudice.
Paul Blake, manager of the Newcastle Eagles, is proud to work with both groups. He emphasizes the importance of promoting inclusion regionally, noting that basketball welcomes everyone, and the club wants to include the whole community.
