Nelson Crocker, 26, is going to jail. He abused boys and girls for over twenty years, and his actions ruined lives. A court in Truro sentenced him, and the minimum time he must serve is nine years.

Crocker was found guilty of twenty-seven charges, including sexual assault and rape. His victims were kids, and the abuse went on into his adulthood. Crocker denied all the crimes and accused his victims of lying.

Five victims were in court. They read emotional statements, some through tears, and talked about the lasting damage. They said they feel like they don’t fit in and that everyone wants to hurt them.

Crocker abused victims in two towns. He raped a sixteen-year-old when he was in his early twenties, and the assaults on children spanned over a decade.

During his trial, he denied everything, claiming the victims made it all up and wanted to ruin his life. This forced them to relive the abuse.

The jury deliberated for half a day and found Crocker guilty on most counts, but not guilty on two. The original charge count was twenty-nine.

One victim testified that the abuse ruined her life. She often feels like he will break in again and is trying to understand why it happened, stating this event ruined her life.

Another victim can’t express emotion and struggles to connect with people and finds it hard to talk to people. Crocker’s actions caused this pain, and he said the court process was incredibly difficult.

He said going through the trial was painful because it forced him to relive the abuse. Another victim first spoke of the abuse four years ago and said telling the police truly scarred him. He changed after the abuse, going from happy to depressed.

He now suffers anxiety and anger. He has panic attacks that make him feel like he is dying.

Another victim said Crocker stole her childhood, and she lost her innocence. No child should ever go through that pain.

Judge Simon Carr spoke at sentencing. He said the abuse was extremely bad and that Crocker started at age ten himself, targeting others near his age.

The judge said the abuse increased and continued into his early twenties. He considered Crocker’s traumatic childhood and also noted Crocker’s minor learning disability.

The judge called Crocker manipulative and street-wise. He carefully targeted vulnerable victims, made them feel special, gave them presents, and acted like a friend but showed no remorse.

The judge rejected that Crocker had a low risk to re-offend. He lowered the sentence due to Crocker’s age during much of the offenses, and Crocker received fourteen years in jail. He must serve two-thirds before possible parole.
