Mary Cash, 39, has been identified as the woman found dead on a Stena Line ferry sailing from Wales to Ireland.

Mary was Irish and lived in the United Kingdom. She traveled with family and friends to a funeral in Co Kildare. Someone found her dead in a bathroom on a Stena Line ferry traveling from Fishguard to Rosslare. The discovery was made near Wexford’s coast, about 35 miles offshore.
The captain radioed for help with an emergency call. Many gardai, including units for armed support and public order, boarded the vessel when it docked. Gardai arrested a man, who remains in custody.
A post mortem exam occurs today. Gardai do not suspect a violent death at this time. Officers believe her passing was a personal tragedy.
Gardai haven’t named Mary Cash, but sources told the Irish Mirror her name. Officers treat her death as unexplained and are investigating the circumstances around her death on the ferry to Rosslare, Co. Wexford.
The post mortem is happening at Waterford University Hospital, and the results will guide the investigation. A man remains detained in connection with this, under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a Garda Station.
A Senior Investigating Officer leads the investigation, and a Family Liaison Officer supports the family by providing information. Gardai are not investigating other incidents related to public order on the ferry, and investigations are ongoing.
