Union says Mansfield Bus Station workers are unsafe due to rising anti-social behavior; CCTV upgrade possible.

The GMB Union wants safety upgrades and help from the county council. They haven’t shared specific details of incidents, but they contacted the local MP and the Police and Crime Commissioner.
The PCC installed intercoms nearby last year on West Gate and Clumber Street. People can talk to CCTV operators anytime in emergencies, via a button.
Colin Whyatt wants action at the station, saying the council doesn’t act. He calls the bus station unsafe currently, and the union feels forced to step in now to sound the alarm.
The union already met the local MP and introduced worried workers to him. They contacted Nottinghamshire’s PCC too, who knows about the issue there. He will talk to local enforcement teams, but the Conservatives seemingly won’t help and may not support CCTV and lighting upgrades.
Councillor Neil Clarke says they value safety, noting many passengers use the station, over four million each year. They work with partners to stop problems and investigate issues, hoping to prevent recurrence.
He said they upgraded the station’s lights recently and the CCTV gets regular service. They are looking to improve the CCTV soon as part of their replacement plans.
They will work with partners on safety. They want safe transport hubs for Nottinghamshire, for all bus station passengers.
