Hey, Manchester is getting cleaner! The city got £5.4m back from waste money. The council plans to use almost all of it for cleaning. Streets will be cleaner, and flytipping addressed. They also plan to fix up green spaces and collect leaves.

In addition, they will stop charging for new recycling bins, a plan that was slated to start in April and would have cost £400,000. The remaining £338,000 will help with housing, specifically to pay for checking for mould in private rentals.

Most people expressed a desire for more money for street cleaning, and the council listened to this demand. They stated that they are happy to make a good budget that works for Manchester people and that they’re already using their extra investment.

Government grants have significantly helped the council’s money situation. Council tax will still experience a rise of 4.99 percent, which is reportedly the legal limit. Even with this increase, the council must still save £18m, but they claim that frontline services will not be affected.

The council leader has stated that more government funding is a positive thing. They believe that good planning means they can make life better for residents. The Labour group will approve the plan next week, and then all councillors will vote on it on February 28.
