The Shamrock, a historic Manchester pub closed since 2018, might reopen in late 2025 under new ownership and a new name.

The pub served the Ancoats area for over two centuries. Marstons brewery closed The Shamrock in 2018; the former landlord was very upset about this closure.
Joseph Holt brewery bought the pub in 2019. They planned to invest and fix the place up, and people thought it would reopen that same year. However, construction work kept delaying things.
The building has been closed since then. The brewery spoke about reopening it in early 2023, stating that it wouldn’t be an Irish pub anymore but become a Joseph Holt’s pub instead. They want it to match the newer places nearby.
The brewery is waiting for plan approval now and have a possible opening date in mind too. Paul Longmire talked about their development plans, and the city planners now have these plans after talks. He hopes the plans get approved soon. If things go well, work starts this year.
They hope to rename and reopen it in late 2025. The Shamrock closed seven years ago, and the old landlord wanted to buy it himself.
He said it was the last traditional pub in Ancoats then. The pub was a gathering spot for locals, with Irish and Italian people calling it home. It stood as the last piece of old Ancoats before new bars and restaurants came, catering to the growing housing around there.
