A 34 year old man stabbed a 15 year old boy in the neck after being told to leave Westbridge Park earlier that day.

Earlier, police told Coleman, then 34, to leave because he had been involved with a group of youths. Later that day, Coleman returned. Just after 9 p.m., he used a Stanley knife to slash the boy’s neck.
An off-duty paramedic helped the boy quickly, and he was rushed to a hospital for stitches. Police reviewed CCTV footage, which showed Coleman using the Stanley knife during the fight. He swung it at the boy’s face before running away.
Police arrested Coleman when he returned again, finding he had washed the blood off his hands. At court on February 3rd, Coleman admitted his crimes and was sentenced to 40 months in jail. The charges were wounding plus having a knife, and the court issued a restraining order preventing Coleman from contacting the victim.
Detective Edward Taylor-Brown spoke after sentencing, calling it a targeted, violent attack that significantly affected the child. He noted the paramedic’s quick help enabled the boy’s full physical recovery. The psychological impact, however, lingers.
Taylor-Brown expressed relief Coleman admitted guilt. He also emphasized the passerby’s help averted a fatality and commended the victim’s courage. The detective hoped the sentence brings comfort and demonstrates dedication to justice for victims.
He concluded by stating this sends a clear message: if you carry knives, you will be caught and prosecuted fully.
