A man repeatedly punched a stranger in a nightclub, causing a brain bleed after the victim asked a simple question.

Mangan, 31, was helping his drunk girlfriend when Christopher Sixsmith asked if they knew each other. Mangan replied rudely and punched Sixsmith, hitting his face several times. Sixsmith fell and hit his head.
The event occurred around 3:15 am in November 2022. Police gathered CCTV footage, and an anonymous tip identified Mangan. He admitted to assault at Liverpool Crown Court.
The prosecutor described Sixsmith’s injuries, which included a brain bleed and head cuts. He stayed in the hospital for a few days and returned later due to more pain. Sixsmith said the event greatly changed him.
He feared his children would grow up without him and felt unusually vulnerable. For over a year, he had severe headaches. Mood swings affected his family life.
Mangan’s lawyer said he regrets his actions, noting that he has two young children and a job. He asserted that Mangan did not mean to cause such injury, having drunk too much and overreacted.
The judge acknowledged the event’s impact, noting Sixsmith was simply socializing that night and expressing concern about Mangan’s girlfriend. He stated that Mangan lost his temper and hit Sixsmith hard.
The judge recognized Mangan didn’t intend such serious harm, though that risk exists when fights occur in public places. He understood Mangan was very drunk. The judge considered Mangan’s family and remorse.
The court sentenced Mangan to a suspended prison term. It also included rehabilitation, unpaid work, and compensation. He must pay Sixsmith £1,000. Mangan lives on Harbrook Road.
