A man from Barry went to jail. He can’t own animals now either. He hurt his two cats, and one of them died.

Daniel Bradley Jones took Maisey to a vet in 2023. He said he stepped on her by accident at home, where he lived on Northcote Terrace. Maisey cried and moved her legs strangely. She was wet and already dead when she arrived.

The vet found signs of major trauma, said the RSPCA. It looked like someone stomped on her hard. Her chest was hurt, and her jaw was bruised. Her eye stuck out, and she had blood in her mouth. X-rays showed broken bones and a collapsed lung.

In 2023, Jones took Odin, his other cat, to the vet. He said Odin hit an Xbox on a shelf three days before. He later said the Xbox was on the floor. Odin was wet, cold, and in pain. He had head and spinal trauma. Jones said he bathed them despite vet advice. The cats seemed nervous when held.

Vets said the injuries didn’t match Jones’s stories. An expert said both cats suffered from abuse. Maisey likely died from lung collapse and chest trauma. A broken rib also contributed to the cause.

Jones admitted to animal welfare crimes. The court sentenced him after an RSPCA probe. He claimed mental health issues from cannabis use. He got 40 weeks in jail and must pay £187. He can’t own pets for five years.

The RSPCA inspector said both kittens had injuries. These injuries happened while Jones cared for them. Maisey died from the abuse. Odin got protection and a new home because of vet concerns. The vulnerable kittens trusted Jones, she said. The agency seeks justice if animals get harmed.
