Man Jailed After Threatening Mother with Knife in Money Dispute

Muhammed Ahmed, aged 34, threatened his mother and brother with a knife. His visits to his parents were frequent, but often unwelcome. He has a history of demanding money from his mother.

On May 2nd of last year, Ahmed went to his mother’s house and asked for money. She gave him £50. He returned very early the next morning, demanding more money, but she refused.

The prosecutor stated that Ahmed then grabbed a six-inch kitchen knife. He went to his mother’s bedroom. Inside, he made stabbing motions toward the wall. He also slashed the curtains.

Ahmed’s mother told him to kill her if that was his intention. He retorted that he would have killed her if she wasn’t his mother. At that point, his brother intervened. Ahmed then threatened to kill his brother if the police were contacted.

The police arrived and quickly arrested Ahmed. He tested positive for heroin use. Ahmed’s mother reported feeling scared, upset, and experiencing significant heart pain. She doesn’t want Ahmed to return home and worries about her personal safety.

Ahmed’s lawyer stated his client has been drug-free since the incident. He is now eager to address his addiction. The Judge said it was a terrifying event for his mother, saddened that her son could do this, and that Ahmed caused her to fear him in her own home.

The court jailed Ahmed for 21 months after he pleaded guilty to threatening someone with a knife in private. He is prohibited from contacting his mother for seven years due to a restraining order. Ahmed resided on Broome Street, Oldham.
