The nephew found Mrs. Crown on January 13, 2013. Her throat was cut, and she had chest wounds. Someone set her clothes on fire in her Wisbech bungalow. Newton lived on Magazine Close in Wisbech. Police arrested him then let him go.
Initially, police saw no crime and waited two days to secure the scene. The prosecutor called it a “grave error.”
In 2013, they told Newton he was free, but in 2024, he faced charges because scientists found new DNA evidence from Mrs. Crown’s nail clippings. The 2013 tech was not good enough.
The judge spoke in court, calling it a fierce attack on a defenseless woman in her home. It was a knife attack, and people in court whispered “yes.”
Newton seemed to raise an eyebrow. Then, guards led him away.
