A man died at Manchester Airport. He was 27 years old. Border Force officials had detained him because they said he was acting strangely.

Officers stopped him in Terminal 2 before his flight, suspecting drug offenses. The man then got sick and passed away soon after.

Emergency services arrived including paramedics and police. He was declared dead at 1:53 p.m.

The IOPC, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, is investigating the police actions. The event occurred Wednesday, February 19th.

The Home Office reported the incident, stating the man was stopped for acting oddly. He was arrested and taken to a holding area where he became unwell, prompting paramedics to be called.

The IOPC started an investigation and announced it at 4:29 p.m. Investigators went to the airport and began collecting evidence.

Amanda Rowe, an IOPC Director, sends thoughts to the man’s family. She said a thorough investigation is important to help understand what happened.

The IOPC contacted the family and explained their role in the investigation. They will keep the family updated, but the investigation is just beginning and they have no more information right now.
