Gary Dewar, 40 from Lhanbryde, died after being struck by an ambulance responding to an emergency call near Elgin. Police are investigating.

Gary, from Lhanbryde, was quickly transported to the hospital. Sadly, he died soon after arrival. In response to the accident, the road was closed for nearly ten hours to allow for a full investigation.
Sergeant Dave Cooper commented on the accident, expressing his condolences to Gary’s family and asking everyone to respect their privacy. The police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Sergeant Cooper is also appealing to drivers for assistance. He is asking anyone who drove on the A96 near Elgin to come forward and contact the police at 101 with any dash-cam footage, referencing incident number 0494 and February 22, 2025.
Friends have shared tributes on social media, describing Gary as a “character” with a “huge kind hearted soul.” Many expressed their sorrow, with one person writing that he would be sorely missed and another adding, “Sleep easy wee Gaz”.
