The police got a call about a man with a knife. It happened on Seaforth Road around 4:50 PM on February 28. Officers arrested the man using special tactics to protect everyone there. A dog handler was present, too.
Zeus, a police dog, is six years old and a Belgian Malinois. He got injured but he’s now home after treatment. They took the man to the hospital first, then into police custody.
He faces charges, even one for animal welfare. He goes to court on March 3, 2025. Police found a knife at the scene later.
Seaforth Road shut down near Park Road while police investigated the area thoroughly. It reopened around 1:15 PM on March 1. Superintendent Ross Kelly spoke about the event, thinking this was a one-time thing.
The public is not in danger now and no officers were hurt. The police are worried about Zeus and his handler, hoping Zeus recovers quickly. Police dogs are essential to their work and attacks on them are unacceptable.
