A 37 year old man was arrested amidst a ‘highly sophisticated’ mobile phone fraud investigation in Greater Manchester.

Greater Manchester Police acted early, searching four places in Oldham as part of an ongoing case. A 37-year-old man was arrested and is suspected of fraud. He’s now being questioned by the police.
People reported fraud, so GMP investigated, and the North West crime unit joined them. People got calls from fake mobile providers and were urged to upgrade their deal, with victims believing they would get new phones.
But, they did not get the phones they expected. When they called about deliveries, they got strange instructions, being told to send the package elsewhere. The addresses are believed to be “mule” locations that keep the phones and then give them to criminals.
Some stolen phones may leave the country, authorities suspect.
Detective Inspector Flint spoke about the case, saying all fraud reports matter to police. They investigate criminal activity thoroughly, and he added that this fraud is a serious one, affecting many.
He said an arrest happened, and phones were seized. This investigation is still early, and he wants people to stay alert to fraud risks. Police work hard to fight fraud and want to bring criminals to justice. He asked folks to report anything suspicious, requesting, “If you see something, tell us.”
