They might put rocks by the road. This could stop illegal parking near Mam Tor. Councillors talked about parking problems February 26. Rushup Edge near Mam Tor has the most fines. They issued 1,918 tickets last year.

People want a meeting about Peak District tourism. Parking is a big part of this. James Adams said people need education about road rules. He meant things like clearways and yellow lines.

Drivers park on verges at Rushup Edge often. There are no parking restrictions there. But, it still is not a parking space. The council and park authority share responsibilities, which makes things complicated.

The council makes rules for roads, but they cannot build more car parks. They also cannot stop people parking on verges. One councillor noted Mam Tor’s high fine count, which surpassed the next five problem spots combined.

He thinks more resources are needed. The road closed in winter due to parking, and emergency services struggled to pass. He thinks that shows a serious problem. The issue is not isolated; it happens often, with hundreds of tickets issued daily.

Adams said people miss parking rules, and improving signs could help. They might change verges to deter parking. Five parking wardens patrolled the area recently, and they will be there during holidays too.

They might use boulders on Rushup Edge, but this would require park authority approval. Adams made a joke about sunrise watchers, saying fewer will come as days get longer.

He shared a story about a parking ticket appeal. A driver parked on Rushup Edge at night and said traffic blocked them in. They got a ticket at 9:10 am, claiming the car would not move because they could not see the road lines at night.

The council said the sun rose earlier and others could have assisted. The car was also partially on the road.
