A man went to court for his father’s murder. It happened in Malahide, north of Dublin. Stephane Benz, age 29, is from Switzerland. He lives at Gainsborough Lawns in Malahide.

Judge Marie Conneely saw Stephane Benz in court Sunday. He was charged with killing Urz Benz, age 62. Detective Garda Alan Roche talked about the arrest. He said they arrested Stephane Benz early Sunday.

The arrest happened at Coolock Garda Station. They charged him with manslaughter first. That was quickly changed. Benz didn’t respond after the police cautioned him.

Garda Roche then charged Benz with murder. Benz again made no comment after caution. The police dropped the manslaughter charge. Michael O’Connor is the solicitor.

He said there would be no bail request. The district court cannot grant bail for murder. The accused wore a black hoodie and grey pants. He said nothing during the short court appearance.

The court sent him to Cloverhill District Court. He must appear there on Wednesday, January 12. O’Connor asked for a mental health evaluation. The court will decide on legal aid Wednesday.

They need a statement of means first. Urz Benz arrived in Ireland on Friday. They found him unresponsive in Malahide Saturday. This followed a serious assault.

The house is now a crime scene. Forensic officers are examining the house.
