The M62 might cause travel problems this weekend between Manchester and Warrington. Resurfacing work is planned there, focusing on the westbound side of the road between junctions 12 (Eccles) and 11 (Birchwood).

The M62 westbound will fully close overnight from 9 PM Friday to 6 AM Saturday. Another closure happens Saturday from 11:15 PM Saturday to 6 AM Sunday, according to information from the MEN.

When the motorway is open on Saturday, only two lanes will be working. Give yourself extra travel time. Officials want to lessen problems for drivers, which means overnight closures work better. Saturday night, they close the road later to help fans return from events at arenas.

The eastbound side stays fully open during the work. Drivers should use other routes, especially Saturday, and expect delays despite the 50 mph speed limit. During overnight closures, use the signed diversion via the M60, A5103, M56, and M6, and plan for more time.

National Highways set up the diversion route. Drivers should expect delays and congestion, largely on Saturday. If going between Manchester and Liverpool, consider other routes and allow extra time to get there.
