A damaged A432 Badminton Road overbridge on the M4 near Bristol will be demolished next month after being closed since 2023.

Remember how it connects Bristol to Yate? They checked it out last year and saw cracks in the concrete, as well as damage to the post-tensioning system. That’s why it’s been closed off to cars.
They’ve designed a brand new bridge that’s 20 meters long, and they will build it this coming year. Both the council and National Highways say it’s still on schedule. The new bridge should open in March 2026, and they won’t have a temporary bridge while they build.
The old bridge, built way back in 1966, is scheduled to be taken down on March 21. The M4 will close for 60 hours then, reopening Monday morning. They’ll start with the edges during demolition, and eventually, they’ll let it fall onto the M4.
Two weeks before demolition, they’ll close pedestrian and cycle access. They need to remove asbestos from pipes in the bridge. They’ll start building the new bridge in April. People are not happy about the closure and it has caused disruptions since July 2023.
