The A432 bridge over the M4, closed since 2023, will be demolished in March. A 60-hour M4 closure is expected.

The A432 Badminton Road overbridge is the one in question. It goes over the M4 in South Gloucestershire and links Bristol and Yate together. They will remove it between March 21 and March 24.
They checked the bridge back in 2023 and spotted cracked concrete and a damaged system. This forced them to close the bridge completely. A new bridge design is already complete, and construction should occur over the next year.
South Gloucestershire Council and National Highways confirmed plans, and the project is on schedule right now. The new bridge should open in March 2026. They do not plan a temporary bridge.
They built the current bridge way back in 1966. Demolition is set for the weekend of March 21. The M4 will close for 60 hours total and should reopen the following Monday morning. The demolition starts at the edges, then the bridge will fall onto the M4 completely.
Pedestrians and cyclists cannot use the bridge soon. Access ends two weeks before the demolition date as workers need to remove asbestos from the bridge’s pipes.
The new bridge construction starts in April. Local people are not happy with the situation. The bridge closure began back in July 2023, and it has really disrupted everyone.
