Police expand probe into Lucy Letby case, now including gross negligence and corporate manslaughter. Suspects have been notified.
Cheshire Police confirmed this update, adding that they are also looking into corporate manslaughter. This started after Letby’s conviction in 2023, with detectives examining the hospital’s leaders.
They will see if their decisions were criminal in relation to the high number of deaths. The investigation now includes individual actions, as gross negligence manslaughter applies to people.
This doesn’t change Letby’s convictions. She was found guilty of murder and also attempted to murder infants. Police told suspects they were identified, but won’t name them yet.
No arrests or charges have occurred so far. The investigation continues into both manslaughter types, and there is no set time frame to finish. Police also investigate deaths at two hospitals: Countess of Chester and Liverpool Women’s.
The time frame is 2012 to 2016. Police want to protect the investigation and support the affected families. Public interest is high, but details matter; stories can hurt the investigation, and comments can distress the families.
