Discover budget friendly activities for families during half term in Leicester, featuring museums, libraries and more.

Kids get a week off, starting February 17th. They can see cool curiosities and try stand-up comedy. Steam train rides and Lego coding clubs are available.
Leicester Museums brings curiosities to Beaumont Centre on February 15. From 11 AM to 4 PM, discover odd items. These come from Leicester’s nature and tech collections.
On February 15, cyclists can learn about Joe Orton. The bike ride is nine miles and passes Orton’s childhood area and inspiring theatre.
On February 17, kids learn dog care at Beaumont Leys Library. The Dogs’ Trust hosts this free session. It’s for ages 7-11, from 10 AM to 11 AM. Call 0116 454 3270 to book a spot.
That day, Highfields Library has “Gangsta Granny” fun. For ages seven and up, build a Crown Jewels alarm. Fosse Library has it on February 18 and Belgrave Library follows on February 19. Book by contacting the libraries.
Newarke Houses Museum has puppets on February 18. Tickets cost £4. Abbey Pumping Station has steam train rides on Railway Day from 11:30 AM to 4 PM. It’s free to enter, but train rides cost 50p.
The Haymarket centre hosts space crafts on Wednesday. From 11 AM to 3 PM, aliens will walk around during “Blast Off To Fun.” The Space Centre leads activities and there are also King Richard III crafts. They are for ages three and up.
Leicester Museum has a museum-in-a-box event on February 19. Central Library starts a Lego Coding Club that day. It is for ages 8-12 and lasts six weeks; booking is needed for both activities.
February 20 is the Guildhall’s snowball fight, part of Frosty Fun Day. There are winter crafts from 11 AM to 3 PM and tickets are £4 if bought in advance.
Kids can make clay figures at Leicester Cathedral both Tuesday and Thursday. The sessions are for age three and up and the crafts are also free.
Teens can make a zine at Leicester Museum on February 21. Artists will help make a Leicester Legends zine. The free sessions run from 2 PM to 4 PM.
Libraries have activities all week too. Aylestone hosts Undersea Crafts, while Westcotes hosts The Aliens are Coming. Pork Pie has Fabulous Frivolous Fun, St Matthew’s offers Ramadan crafts, Dreamcatchers are at St Barnabas, and Rushey Mead does Snake crafts. Belgrave will host paper crafts.
Also, enjoy jokes during the UK Kids’ Comedy Festival. Monday jokes go to Highfields Library and find jokes at Aylestone Library on Tuesday. Braunstone and Hamilton libraries host on Wednesday, while Beaumont Leys Library is on Thursday. New Parks Library has joke spots on Friday and Belgrave Library has them Saturday, February 22.
