Residents on Claremont Way awoke to a car fire spreading rapidly, prompting fire service intervention.

The couple lives on Claremont Way in Higher Bebington. They watched two cars parked across from their home catch fire. Graham is 59, and Lindsay is 57.
The bang woke them up very early. They saw a Volvo on fire across the street. The fire spread fast, reaching a BMW parked in front, and a wooden fence also caught fire. They took photos and videos as Lindsay worried they might need to evacuate as the fire quickly grew.
Firefighters responded, using two jets of water to extinguish the blaze. The fire service left by 3 AM after crews saturated the cars parked along the road. Graham spoke to the ECHO, recounting that they woke around 1:45 AM, hearing a bang and spotting an orange glow.
They witnessed the front of the Volvo engulfed in flames, which then spread to the BMW and the fence. His friend quickly called the fire brigade. Seeing Lindsay’s car nearby, he moved it to safety to prevent further damage as the fire grew larger and more bangs occurred.
Lindsay, scared and thinking they might have to evacuate, watched as shrubs caught fire and dogs became frightened; they prepared to leave. The cars belonged to neighbors, and Graham and Lindsay felt bad for them.
They suspect an electrical issue may have initiated the fire, although officials have not confirmed this. They praised the fire service for their fast response and effective efforts in putting out the fire. Graham clarified that the fire started with the Volvo, not the BMW, and that it wasn’t a crash since the cars belonged to residents and were parked there.
The fire service received the call before 2 AM. Two fire engines arrived within minutes to find the cars and fence ablaze. The fire service confirmed the incident on Claremont Way and reported using hoses to stop the fire. They left the scene at 3:03 AM.
