Eight London bars and restaurants closed in January due to rising costs, landlord disputes and other issues

Some closures had unknown reasons, while others mentioned landlord problems and money troubles. Let’s check which favorite places have closed now. Hill & Szrok, a Hackney butchery’s restaurant, closed January 24.
The Oddfellows Arms in Pinner closed on January 5. This pub was 170 years old and tried fundraising during financial struggles in 2023. Heineken seeks a new owner, so it might reopen. Panadera in Kentish Town had to close due to a landlord dispute and tough operations, but you can still find their Filipino treats near Bond Street.
Café Britaly in Peckham shut down rather quickly after only lasting about eight months total; this place merged British and Italian styles. George Mascall retired from Manze’s in Deptford on January 25. Two other Manze’s locations stay open, luckily, in Peckham and Tower Bridge.
Locanda Locatelli in Marylebone closed after 23 years, citing reasons outside their control for shutting down too. Carmel in Fitzrovia closed on January 20 after only nine months. TGI Fridays shut its Leicester Square site to save money after 35 other closures.
