A church in Tower Hamlets had an icon stolen. The theft happened on November 10, 2021. The artwork depicted Saint Dunstan. It has not been recovered.

David Longbottom gifted the icon to the church. He was the painter, and its estimated value is £5,000. Reverend Trevor Critchlow spoke about their devastation, emphasizing that the icon was very important.

Saint Dunstan built the church. Reverend Critchlow mentioned its significance, noting that Dunstan lived locally around AD 952. That is when they first built it.

Reverend Critchlow wants to find the stolen icon. He even created a website which shows footage of the alleged thief.

The person came prepared, wearing a mask and gloves. They also brought a case, making it difficult to identify them from the video.

Police were informed about the crime, but haven’t found the person responsible for the theft. A noticeable gap remains in the church where the icon used to sit.

Reverend Critchlow had hoped for its return, believing someone would recognize it. Sadly, no one has seen it. The church appealed for help on X, formerly Twitter, asking people to contact them or the police if they saw the icon.

If you know something, please contact the church or the Metropolitan Police. Any information could help them find it.
