Adele Furlong owns a shop in Delph and her seamstresses agree with Adele. “Yorkshire,” they say about Delph’s true home. Kathryn Wheeler has lived there for 25 years.
Kathryn said people stay in Delph forever, and Adele agreed, saying she would never live anywhere else. The village has Yorkshire stone buildings, and nearby valleys feel more similar than Manchester.
Grace Harrington runs a chip shop in Delph, but she is unsure about the village’s identity. Grace says it depends on the situation because some prefer Yorkshire, others prefer Manchester.
Delph is a conservation area, truly unique. The village has lovely water features. The River Tame flows through it, and small streams feed ponds, then return to the river.
Adele said the village is very beautiful, clarifying that she moved there three years ago. People want to live in Saddleworth. Despite being near Manchester, it is unspoiled.
Uppermill is south of Delph and feels more modern. Delph still feels like a real village instead. It features a theatre, a library, and also noteworthy are three pubs!
Saddleworth Crafts Cooperative is in Delph. It is a craft and community centre since 1979. Richard Clare has a studio there, and he said it has a great community spirit.
Richard lived in Delph for 15 years, but he now resides near Huddersfield. Uppermill has changed a lot, Richard noted, but Delph is quiet, which he appreciates most.
