Plans to reduce traffic and improve safety near Sandy Road and Maes-Y-Coed junction in Llanelli are underway.

The work will happen near Sandy Road and Maes-Y-Coed junction, specifically on the A484 westbound. The main goal is faster trips between Llanelli and Burry Port.
To achieve this, they will add a right-turn lane at the junction from Sandy Road onto Maes-Y-Coed Road. This should ease traffic during busy times so that commuters should have a smoother ride.
The council is working to improve Llanelli by working on roads and other travel options. A new transport plan is in the works, with the goal of better air, travel, and safety.
This plan also aims to improve air quality around schools, including Ysgol Y Strade and Furnace School. Coleg Sir Gar will benefit too, as they want to improve walking and biking access. They’re adding a crossing on Maes-Y-Coed Road, and cyclists also get advanced stop lines.
The council wants feedback on these proposals; you can share your thoughts on their website. A public meeting happened on March 7th at Furnace Community Hall.
