The Caledonia pub in Liverpool’s Georgian Quarter closed due to unpaid electricity bills. A historic debt is to blame.

The pub closed because of unpaid bills, specifically a warrant concerning electricity. Laura King, the pub’s licensee, posted about the closure on Instagram, expressing her heartbreak.
Laura said disconnection happened because of a historic balance owed by the old operating company. She worked to change the business model, transitioning it to a not-for-profit company which then took over the lease.
Laura is working to fix the problem and wants to serve the community again. She does not have a definite timeframe but will contact artists and suppliers, and advise about solutions.
Laura asks those to assist her staff team, who are struggling through no fault of their own. Contact Laura or them directly if you desire to help. Laura added her thanks and apologies.
Seven months prior, Laura mentioned struggles, describing how tricky it became keeping the community pub going. She asked people to visit for a drink or meal.
Laura loves what the pub offers. It brings joy and community too many and provides safety and acceptance. People find wonderful friendships there. She needs kindness to fight this storm.
The Caledonia sits on Catharine Street’s corner. People know it for craft beers and real ales. Free gigs happen there frequently, featuring many music genres.
